Ministries - Music
At First Pres., music is an integral part of our worship, and varied styles of music give honor to Jesus! All music groups are open to new musicians. Come join us! All music is intended to deepen our experience with God and help us all worship God in spirit and truth.
Music Programs
Cathedral Choir
Cathedral Choir meets each Thursday at 7:00 - 9:00 pm to prepare music for the 9:00 am worship service. There is childcare available upon request. The choir presents an anthem each week during the 9:00 am Sunday worship service, and also prepares special music for Easter and Christmas. The Cathedral Choir is under the direction of Chris Sillerud.
Gloribells
Gloribells is a handbell group of mixed ages and experience. Try something new! Join Gloribells! We teach you everything you need to know to ring beautiful music. Musical experience, though helpful, is not required. Attendance at Tuesday practices is a must. We participate in Sunday worship service once a month. Our practice schedule is Tuesdays from 7:15 - 8:30 pm in the Sanctuary. Call Lorraine King at (661) 251-0535.
Kids of the Kingdom
Kids of the Kingdom, our children’s choir, is open to K-middle school students. They meet Sunday mornings at 11:00 am for rehearsal in room E-1. This program includes singing, rhythm instruments, and tone chimes. The group sings in worship occasionally and prepares a special musical once a year. Kids of the Kingdom is under the direction of Dianne Tarantelli.
11th Hour Band
The 11th Hour Band provides worship leadership in both the 9 am and 11 am services. Practice schedules vary during the year. The band is made up of dedicated and talented musicians, singing and playing a variety of instruments, who want to use their gifts to serve the Lord and to help others engage in worship. Interested musicians will be asked to audition or to submit recordings. If you’d like more information, please contact Bill Sperry in the church office.
Gospel Choir
Gospel Choir meets on Monday evenings to prepare music for both worship services. If you like to sing and can commit some time, we’d love to have you! Contact Rose Palmer at rosepalmer@adelphia.net.
Organ
Organist Marianna Abrahamyan
Our Organ is the 1982 Rosales Opus 9 Tracker and is played by our accomplished organist/pianist, Marianna Abrahamyan. She plays preludes and offertories, and accompanies the hymns and anthems. Many gather around for the organ postlude which amounts to a mini-organ concert/recital every Sunday at the end of the 9:00 am service.
